Detect bacterial transmission in real time
NGD combines automated whole-genome sequencing with actionable infection intelligence—helping hospital teams identify transmission earlier and intervene with confidence.
THE PROBLEM
Traditional infection prevention misses outbreaks
Hospitals don’t have an outbreak detection problem because they aren’t looking, they have one because traditional methods cannot see the transmission.
of hospital transmission may go undetected by traditional surveillance
Up to 90%¹
Fewer than 10%¹
of suspected outbreaks may prove genetically linked

THE SOLUTION
Detect transmission earlier.
Act faster.
NGD Infection Prevention delivers the only automated, end-to-end genomic sequencing platform that provides the real-time, actionable intelligence necessary to proactively detect transmission-before infections can spread.
By combining automated sequencing (NGD200) with advanced analytics (NGD EpiAssist), you can:
Identify previously undetected transmission
Distinguish linked infections from unrelated cases
Give Infection Prevention teams evidence they can act on
One integrated system:
NGD200 & NGD EpiAssist
From samples to actionable insights in one workflow

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Genomic sequencing examines the DNA of bacteria isolated from patients and compares it with samples from other cases. Closely related bacterial genomes can indicate that infections are connected, helping Infection Prevention teams identify possible transmission and investigate where and how it may have occurred.
-
Samples processed on the NGD200 undergo overnight sequencing and automated bioinformatics analysis, with EpiAssist delivering transmission reports to IP teams the following morning. This real-time turnaround is what enables timely intervention — catching transmission as it starts, not weeks later during a retrospective review.
-
No. NGD works alongside your existing surveillance systems, adding a high-resolution layer of genomic insight. It helps teams distinguish genuine transmission from unrelated cases and identify links that traditional surveillance methods may not detect.
-
No. The NGD IP System is a complete end-to-end solution — it does not require your lab to have prior sequencing experience, existing sequencers, or dedicated bioinformatics staff. The NGD200 automates all sample preparation steps, and EpiAssist automates all downstream analysis. Our team manages the bioinformatics pipeline as part of the service. Hospitals of all sizes and technical sophistication levels are suitable candidates.
-
The system requires an NGD200 and a compatible sequencer, which NGD can provide if your hospital does not already have one. We also supply all required reagents and operate an automatic, usage-based replenishment service so that replacement supplies arrive before they are needed. NGD EpiAssist is deployed using your hospital’s existing computer infrastructure.
-
NGD is HIPAA compliant, and NGD EpiAssist is installed within the hospital’s firewall so that your organization retains control of its data. We work closely with your IT, security and compliance teams throughout implementation to meet your institution’s data-protection and regulatory requirements.
-
NGD manages the implementation process in partnership with your hospital teams. We install the hardware, deploy NGD EpiAssist on premises within your hospital firewall, and provide comprehensive training for users. Ongoing support is also provided to help your teams incorporate the system into routine workflows.
