Dr Tom Weaver
Dr Tom Weaver is a scientist, biotechnology entrepreneur and executive with extensive experience building companies based on genetics, genomics and healthcare innovation.
He has founded and led several genetics-based businesses, including Hexagen Genetics, Geneservice and Congenica, and contributed to the development of Next Gen Diagnostics. As founding Chief Executive Officer of Congenica, he helped translate genomic research from the Wellcome Sanger Institute into a clinical decision-support platform designed to support the diagnosis of rare genetic diseases.
Earlier in his career, Dr Weaver served as a Medical Research Council director in Oxford, overseeing a large multidisciplinary team working in mammalian genetics, mutagenesis and clinical phenotyping. His scientific background also includes training in experimental oncology and postdoctoral research at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and the University of Cambridge.
Across his career, Dr Weaver has combined scientific understanding with experience in technology development, operational planning, multidisciplinary team building and executive leadership. His expertise supports NGD in translating advances in genomics into robust technologies and sustainable healthcare applications.
